First of all, I have to put this disclaimer out there---earlier I was commenting on Pants Party's dog Rudy singing (check [tig] dudes, if you haven't seen it, it's a howl, haha!) and I said that I can NEVER catch Elvis howling. I have tried and tried and he always stops when he sees me. It's like he snaps out of it.
So this is really a coincidence. I was actually out back with my camera looking for butterflies, hummingbirds, or those freaky hummingbird moths I am going to be having nightmares about now (but they will probably have the face of the old lady next door who feeds Elvis against my wishes). Just as I was about to head back inside, the fire station siren went off (actually it went on, why do we say it went off when it went on??) and Elvis. could. not. resist. the. howl. instinct. He tried. But the Howl won. a little bit. My air conditioner is making a lot of noise and while Elvis is assuming the position, not a lot of sound is coming out. And the way he looks at me is like, oh my god, please don't, I have to howl, I don't want to in front of you though. Okay, shut up cranky, get on with the film:
Oh lawdy, can you stand it? I can't.
I'd like to introduce you all to the newest member of our household:
Soooo....I had mentioned before, probably on Pants Party's post about the pet food recall, how I had gotten some samples of Wellness & Fromm's food and Elvis loved both of them. His Iams senior food he only ate when he was hungry, because he had to. But he never got excited when I poured food into his bowl, rarely even ate it immediately after I poured it. But, I figured, he ate it, he's always been healthy and he always has good solid poops.
Of course these pet food recalls have me worried like anyone else. I keep checking and the Iams food he has always eaten is not on the list, doesn't even contain wheat gluten. But seeing how he scarfed up those 2 samples, I thought, poor little dewd, he's been eating the same little rocks for 9 years, and he doesn't even really like them. Doesn't he deserve a little better quality of life? Sure, he's spoiled in other ways, but I always feel I could do better by the little guy. I mean, look at him. Is he not so freaking cute and funny?
My plan was to stop by A.C. Moore to pick up a canvas for my (f)art class and stop next door at PetSmart to see what kinds of foods they have, if they carried any of the Wellness or Fromms stuff. The samples I had gotten were the higher end gourmet stuff, and I wanted to see if some of their more basic brands that were easier to find and perhaps not quite so pricey were as appealing to my little stinker. I didn't think PetSmart would carry them so I was going to go to a pet supply place up the road a bit that I knew carried those brands and could special order if need be. Turns out, PetSmart doesn't carry those brands. As I was looking around, an employee asked if I needed help, so I told her what I was looking for & asked if they carried it. So she starts with the "We have something that is very similar to Wellness but it's better." oh, here we go, I hate when people give me the ol' hard sell. She was very nice though, and I asked if they had samples, which of course they didn't. But this lady wasn't one of those hard sell people, she uses the product and truly believes in it, and switched her dog to it from Wellness. The food is Blue Buffalo, which I had never even heard of. She has gotten herself and her dogs into the holistic health approach, and she said they are all really healthy & happy. I won't get into Herbalife, I don't know anything about it but that's the program she is on for herself. But University of Pennsylvania Vet Hosp. (VHUP) couldn't do anything for her dog, his immune system started to shut down & he was dying, and they didn't know what was wrong with him, why it happened or what they could do for him. VHUP is one of the best Vet Schools and Hospitals in the country. The holistic approach worked.
But I digress. She said if my dog doesn't like it I can return it. Of course they were out of the small bags for $13 so I bought the big bag of senior food for $23. Not so bad, the Fromm's & Wellness looked to be about the same price for about the same size bag, if I remember correctly.
But...the real test is...will the little Stinkbomb like it? I got home and as he started eating what was in his bowl from this morning, the mix of Iams and Wellness (of which he was picking the Wellness out and leaving the Iams), I opened the bag of Blue Buffalo, poured some out onto the lovely red carpet, Elvis came over to investigate, sniffed, licked, put it in his mouth and spit it out. Oh crap, that gourmet stuff has him spoiled, the little shit, dammit! But...then he started eating it, and soon he had hoovered up the 10 or so little pieces I'd left for him...and wanted more. As I poured the bag into plastic containers, some spilled onto the floor, which he quickly ate. Whew! He likes it! Hey Mikey! So...it looks like we have a new food. Not the one I'd expected to put him on, but it seems easy enough to find and the price is right and he likes it. We shall see if there are any noticeable improvements in his health. I am not expecting any because there is nothing wrong with him (other than his attitude and maybe a pound of extra weight) so if I DO see improvements...that will really be saying something.
So far so good.
Bear is one of those dogs that you can show her just. about. anything. and she'll trust you enough to let you take her picture with it (or by it, as the case may be) -- with one exception: oranges (I have no idea). Daisy, on the other hand, no. It takes her awhile to warm up to things. Sometimes a long while. The D540 makes this mechanical *sound* and then the lens moves out that she clearly doesn't like. Finally though, she was willing to come get into the video action -- and even give the camera a kiss (albeit it was a quickie). So without further ado, I hereby present to you their second movie. Alternate title: Bear Wants a Bellyrub. Enjoy ;)
